Gono Odhikar Parishad’s General Secretary Rashed Khan has termed the announcement of national parliamentary elections in April next year as a conspiracy to reinstate the 1/11 regime. He stated, “The Election Reform Commission has mentioned 40% voter turnout. If voting doesn’t reach that percentage, re-election will be held in those constituencies. Since the caretaker government has proposed elections in April, it’s unlikely that such turnout will be achieved in the heat. In that case, the caretaker government will remain in power. So, there’s no need to explicitly declare 1/11 – it will happen automatically.”
He further added, “This election roadmap contains such conspiracies. That’s why I’m saying the government’s election decision must be changed through discussions with Tarique Rahman in London. Several advisers are involved in this scheme.”
He made these remarks during a press conference on the election roadmap at the Family Zone Community Center in Jhenaidah on Wednesday noon. The event was organised by the district branch of Gono Odhikar Parishad, attended by its president Sakhawat Hossain, General Secretary Iqbal Zahid Rajon, District President of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Abdullah Al Mamun, General Secretary Rihan Hossain Rayhan, and others.
Rashed Khan said, “The head of the caretaker government had promised that government officials and advisers would declare their assets every month. But in the last 10 months, not a single one has done so.”
He further stated, “The NIDs of some advisers’ APS were blocked. Allegations of illegal wealth were brought against them. Travel bans were imposed – it’s all drama. A female adviser of the government has been accused of corruption, but the government isn’t investigating.”
