Director General of Bangladesh Ansar, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, has announced that Ansar companies at the upazila and thana levels will soon undergo restructuring to strengthen their role in maintaining law and order and safeguarding internal security.

He made the remarks on Wednesday while visiting a training program at BCSIR School and College in the capital, organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar South Zone, reports BSS.

Emphasizing the importance of grassroots operations, the DG said, “These units are central to the force’s mission of combating crime and preserving peace across the country.”

Major General Sajjad Mahmud acknowledged that the effectiveness of these local-level units has declined over time due to gaps in training and weak organizational continuity. As part of ongoing reforms, he underscored the need to standardize and streamline embodied Ansar units to restore their operational strength.

The DG also highlighted the importance of bringing Ansar members into a broader national security framework, enabling them to work in closer coordination with other law enforcement agencies. “Properly trained members, with a strong sense of duty and patriotism, can play a transformative role as representatives of Ansar and the VDP,” he added.

He further noted that the force is moving away from outdated practices by recruiting a new generation of disciplined, morally sound, and physically capable members who are being trained to uphold the law with integrity.

The ongoing training program began on August 26 and will continue until January 10 next year, conducted in eight phases. Each 14-day phase is designed to train thousands of personnel, with a total of 52,183 Ansar members expected to complete the program nationwide.
