Another associate of former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh was arrested from Sukrabad area of the capital early Tuesday in a case filed in connection with the fatal shooting at a rally during an anti-discrimination movement.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Md Khorshed Alam, 48, at around 12:05am from the Sukrabad area under Dhanmondi Police Station.
CID special police super (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan has confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
Earlier, on May 15 this year, another close associate of former mayor Taposh, SM Kamal Haider, was arrested in the same case.
On August 5, 2024, gunshots were fired targeting the activists of the anti-discrimination student movement in Jigatola area of the capital, that left a participant named Abdullah Siddique killed.
In connection with incident, a murder case was filed with Dhanmondi Police Station on September 19 last year.
CID of Dhaka Metro South Division is investigating the matter and it found that Khorshed Alam was present at the spot and led the attack.
Meanwhile, in primary interrogating Khorshed has confessed to the law enforcers about his involvement.
He was produced before a Dhaka court on Tuesday with a seven-day remand prayer.
