The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a major change in its coaching set-up, with former New Zealand international Andre Adams stepping down from his role as Pace Bowling Coach of the national side. Adams, who joined the team in March 2024, has parted ways with the BCB following a mutual agreement.

In a statement, the BCB expressed its gratitude for Adams’ contributions to the development of Bangladesh’s pace bowling department across all formats over the past year. “The Board appreciates the part Andre has played in the growth of our pace attack and we wish him the very best in his future,” the statement read.

Replacing Adams is former Australian speedster Shaun Tait, who has been appointed as the new Fast Bowling Coach of the national team. The 42-year-old is set to join the squad later this month on a contract running until November 2027.

Tait brings with him a wealth of coaching experience, having previously held similar roles with the national sides of Pakistan, West Indies (Test team), and Afghanistan. He has also been actively involved in top-tier franchise leagues around the world, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lankan Premier League (LPL), and English county cricket. Most recently, he served as Head Coach of the Chittagong Kings in the BPL, a team he also represented as a player during the 2012–13 season.

Renowned for his blistering pace, Tait was a member of Australia’s 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning squad and played 59 international matches across all formats for his country.

Commenting on his new role, Tait said: “It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like. It’s been spoken about many times recently—the young talent with the fast bowlers—which is great. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team.

“To have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons is equally as exciting and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”

The appointment of Tait is seen as a strategic move to further strengthen Bangladesh’s pace battery as the team builds towards future international competitions.
