Former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam has been appointed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) under the nominated category, following a directive from the National Sports Council (NSC).
The NSC confirmed the appointment through official orders issued on 29 May 2025, under the provisions of Article 13.2 (b)(4) of the BCB’s constitution. Aminul joins the board as a government-nominated director.
Aminul, who captained Bangladesh in their inaugural Test match in 2000 and scored the country’s first Test century, has been active in cricket development and administration since his retirement, including working with the ICC in various roles.
His appointment marks a return to national cricket affairs, and has been welcomed by many in the cricketing community for his experience and service to the game.
However, the move has also prompted discussion around governance and protocol. Former national selector Faruque Ahmed expressed concerns about maintaining the independence of cricket administration, though no official complaint has yet been made.
There has been no formal statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the appointment, and the BCB is yet to comment publicly.
The situation is being monitored closely, but for now, Aminul Islam’s appointment stands as part of the BCB’s broader organisational framework.
