Alleged rape of 10-year-old girl in Moghbazar

A 10-year-old girl has allegedly been raped at a residence in the Moghbazar Dilu Road area of the capital. The victim has been admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Police have arrested the accused, Babul Bepari (43), following the filing of the case.

Relatives said the family is originally from Shibchar Upazila in Madaripur but currently resides on Dilu Road in Moghbazar. The girl is a second-grade student at a local school.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rajib Hossain of Hatirjheel Police Station stated that the victim’s grandfather, Md Milan, filed the case on Monday. According to the complaint, on August 8, the accused Babul Bepari (43), a neighbour, lured the girl into his home on Dilu Road and raped her. He then threatened her and sent her back home.

The SI further mentioned that the girl fell physically ill by Sunday, prompting family members to question her and learn about the incident. They subsequently filed the case on Monday.

The accused, Babul Bepari, who works at the National Museum, was arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation. He has since been sent to court, while the girl remains hospitalised for medical evaluation and treatment.
