In Begumganj, Noakhali, leaders and activists of the Awami League – whose activities remain currently banned – held a sudden procession. Police arrested three individuals who participated in the march.

The impromptu procession began around 4:30pm on Thursday at Chaumuhani.

Local sources reported that the demonstrators chanted slogans in favour of the Awami League and against the interim government. The procession moved through the main road of Chaumuhani Bazar and entered Karimpur Road.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and detained three individuals, taking them to the police station.

The flash procession was led by Nazmul Shihab, a former leader of the student wing Chhatra League and a follower of ex-MP Mamunur Rashid Kiran of Noakhali-3 constituency.

Several members of the banned student organisation Chhatra League also participated. Locals mentioned that this was the first Awami League procession or gathering in Chaumuhani since the fall of the Awami League government.

Manjurul Azim Suman, president of Noakhali District Jubo Dal, said, “We heard about the procession. When our activists went to the spot after getting the news, they found no one there.”

Noakhali Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruk stated that upon receiving information about the procession, police immediately intervened and arrested three individuals. Operations are ongoing to detain others involved.
