AL activist arrested for death threats to Yunus, chief justice, army chief

An Awami League activist was arrested early on Saturday on charges of issuing death threats to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, and Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

Police hunted him down from Jafatnagar village in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram after a video containing the death threats went viral on social media.

The arrestee was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 50, son of Chhunnu Mia of the village.

He was produced to a local court which sent him to jail, said Nur Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station.

Alamgir was seen brandishing a bloodstained knife and threatening to kill the chief adviser along with other key state officials, the OC added.

Alamgir also used abusive words in the video leading to significant public outcry.
