South Africa’s Aiden Markram and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews have been crowned the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for June 2025, following standout performances on the international stage.

Markram secured the men’s honour ahead of fellow South African Kagiso Rabada and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka, thanks to a match-defining display in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s. The 30-year-old opener struck a composed 136 from 207 deliveries, anchoring a 147-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Temba Bavuma as the Proteas successfully chased 282 to defeat Australia by five wickets.

It marked South Africa’s first ICC title since the 1998 Champions Trophy and a historic moment for the nation’s cricketing history. Markram also chipped in with a wicket in each innings, further underlining his all-round impact.

“It is a privilege to receive this award,” said Markram. “To contribute to an ICC World Test Championship win for our team and South Africa is something that means a lot to me. Winning at Lord’s is a moment we will never forget.”

In the women’s category, Matthews continued her impressive run by clinching the accolade for a record-equalling fourth time, joining Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner as the only players to do so.

The West Indies all-rounder edged South Africa’s Tazmin Brits and teammate Afy Fletcher after starring in both ODI and T20I series against South Africa. She amassed 104 runs and took four wickets in the 50-over contests, including a composed half-century in the third ODI.

Her form carried through to the T20I leg, where she was named Player of the Series after hitting two fifties in a 147-run aggregate and claiming two wickets to help the Windies to a 2-1 triumph.

“It’s an honour to receive the Player of the Month award again,” said Matthews. “More than anything, it’s been great to contribute to the team’s success, especially in a hard-fought T20I series. Recognition like this is appreciated, but I’m focused on what’s ahead. We’re heading in the right direction.”

Winners were selected through a combination of votes from a specialist ICC panel of former players and media, as well as input from global fans registered at icc-cricket.com. Fans are encouraged to continue voting each month for their standout performers across formats.
