Advisory council approves Tk 7,90,000 cr budget

The advisory council members of the interim government have approved the national budget for 2025-2026 fiscal ahead of its formal televised presentation at 3pm on Monday.

The volume of the budget is Tk 7,90,000 crore. Out of this, the revenue budget size is Tk 5,74,000 crore. Chief adviser Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting of the advisory council at the CA’s Tejgaon office in Dhaka.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed will be on air at 3:00pm on Bangladesh Television (BTV) to deliver the first budget of the interim government.

Ministry sources said interim government will introduce a wide spectrum tax and duty reforms to facilitate the country’s smooth graduation from least developed country (LDC) status and boost economic growth.

As part of the proposed measures, the tax-free income threshold for individual taxpayers has been raised from Tk 3.5 lakh to Tk 3.75 lakh
for the assessment years 2026–27 and 2027–28.

In the upcoming development budget, three mega projects will get special focus with the view to providing cheaper electricity, easing Dhaka dwellers’ transportation problem and enhancing international trade.

The three mega projects — Rooppur nuclear power plant, Dhaka mass rapid transit line-1 (MRT-1) and the Matarbari Port Development Project — together will get Tk 22,710 crore, which is 9.9 percent of the development budget of 2025-26 fiscal.
