Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Thursday said that advisers intending to join politics should resign after the announcement of the election schedule.

“None of us – the advisers and I – who wish to participate in politics in the future, should be part of the electioneering government. Otherwise, the validity of the election will be questioned,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat, reports UNB.

Asked if he would resign, the adviser said that no decision has been made as of yet, and that the final decision will come from the government in this regard.

Replying to another question, Asif reiterated that the matter remains pending regarding whether he will contest the elections or join the National Citizen Party (NCP) led by fellow July Uprising demonstrator Nahid Islam.

Regarding extortion allegations, he dismissed those as “baseless and politically motivated” and currently under investigation.
