Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has urged economists and commentators not to focus solely on the government’s failures and negative aspects but to also acknowledge its achievements.
The adviser was addressing at the launching ceremony of the e-return system for the 2025–26 tax year. The adviser emphasised that there are many positive developments under the current government that deserve recognition.
“Some junior economists only point out what is missing or flawed in government actions. But I encourage them to look at what has gone well too. There is no issue with criticising the government—that helps us correct ourselves but the good sides should not be ignored,” he said.
Dr Ahmed also noted the reputation of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and advised officials to maintain its standard through consistent performance. He added that the digitisation of tax filing ensures greater transparency and accountability, making governance more efficient.
