Adviser-level committee formed to probe Hamid’s departure

An adviser-level committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding former President Abdul Hamid’s departure abroad through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on May 7, according to Chief Adviser’s Office.

The committee members are: Professor CR Abrar, Adviser, Ministry of Education (Chairman); Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources (Member) and Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser, Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Labour & Employment (Member)

The committee will be examining the following matters and submit its report within the next 15 days: a) The process by which former President Abdul Hamid departed through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on May 7, 2025; b) Whether any lapses or negligence occurred in the discharge of duties by concerned authorities and c) Identification of responsible parties for any failures and recommendations regarding appropriate measures

To execute the tasks, the committee may demand necessary documents, interview relevant individuals, and co-opt additional members as required.

According to an announcement of the CA Office, all concerned agencies shall comply with the committee’s directives and provide necessary assistance, and that the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee.

During the early hours of Thursdayformer president Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Bangkok aboard a Thai Airways flight. He was accompanied by his son Riad Ahmed and brother-in-law Dr AM Nawshad.

There had been a murder case against the former President, filed on January 14 at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station.

Earlier, the police took punitive measures against five policemen, including an SP and an additional SP, and formed a high-level investigation committee.
