An ammunition magazine was found in a bag carried by Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while he was at the airport on his way to Morocco on Sunday.

After the magazine was detected at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he removed it from the bag and handed it over to his protocol officer.

Air Vice Marshal Md Manzur Kabir Bhuiyan, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), told Times of Bangladesh, “The adviser had mistakenly carried the magazine of his licensed firearm in his bag. Mistakes do happen.”

He expressed regret over the incident and later sent the magazine to his protocol officer.

Asif Mahmud was traveling to Morocco via Turkey on Turkish Airlines flight TK-713 to attend the Marrakech OIC Youth Capital 2025 event.

The flight departed Dhaka at 7am for Istanbul. Earlier, during scanning at boarding bridge B09, the ammunition magazine was detected in the adviser’s luggage.

According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Aeronautical Publication Information (AIP) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Dangerous Goods Regulations, carrying magazines in cabin baggage is prohibited.

However, bullets and magazines can be transported in checked luggage if declared in advance and packed in compliance with locked packaging policies.
