Nusraat Faria was detained by immigration police while attempting to travel to Thailand on a Bangladesh Biman flight. She was later handed over to Bhatara Police Station.

The detention of Nusraat Faria was confirmed by Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of the DMP, SN Md Nazrul Islam.

Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam said Nusraat Faria has not yet been formally shown as arrested. She is being transferred from the police station to the Detective Branch (DB).

Authorities will examine whether there are any other cases filed against her. A decision will then be made regarding which case she will be shown arrested under. Investigations in this regard are currently underway, he added.

Nusraat Faria portrayed Sheikh Hasina, the country’s ousted prime minister, in the biographical film “Bangabandhu”, also known as “Mujib: The Making of a Nation”. Directed by acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal, the film chronicles the life and legacy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Nusraat Faria played the young Sheikh Hasina, capturing her early life, political upbringing, and emotional journey as the daughter of a revolutionary leader. Her performance was noted for its emotional depth and historical significance, contributing to the portrayal of a pivotal chapter in Bangladesh’s political history. The film was a joint production between the governments of Bangladesh and India, symbolising cultural collaboration and a tribute to shared history.

According to Md Sujan Haque, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Bhatara Police Station, Nusraat Faria is an accused in an attempted murder case filed at the station.

The case stems from violent clashes and alleged political unrest that took place during the July 2024 uprising, a period marked by mass protests, political confrontations, and heightened tensions between ruling and opposition factions.

As part of the legal proceedings, Nusraat Faria is one of 17 actors and actresses named as accused, alongside high-profile individuals including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and actresses Suborna Mustafa and Apu Biswas.

On 28 April 2025, a Dhaka court ordered the police to proceed with the case and officially register it as an attempted murder charge.

This followed a complaint filed earlier in March by a citizen named Enamul Haque, who submitted a petition to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka, accusing a total of 283 individuals, including prominent political and entertainment figures.

Following the court’s instruction, the complaint was recorded as a First Information Report (FIR) at Bhatara Police Station.

Bhatara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam and Inspector Md Sujan Haque confirmed the developments. Sujan Haque added that the list of accused includes well-known figures such as Meher Afroz Shaon, Zayed Khan, Ashna Habib Bhabna, and Azizul Haque, all of whom are among the 17 named actors in the case.
