Actor Siddikur Rahman was physically assaulted and harassed by a group of people in Dhaka’s Kakrail area on Tuesday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said he was attacked by an angry mob who tore his shirt and accused him of being an “Awami collaborator.”

Following the assault, the crowd handed him over to police at Ramna Police Station. Later in the evening, he was transferred to Gulshan Police Station.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing two youths dragging Siddik by his hands toward the police station, his shirt torn, while he broke down crying several times.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ramna Division) Masud Alam said, “A group of youths attacked Siddik in front of the Anti-Corruption Commission office in Segunbagicha. Police rescued him and took him to the station.”

DC Masud Alam also confirmed that Siddik has two ongoing cases at Gulshan Police Station related to the July-August killings. He was handed over accordingly.

Siddikur Rahman had collected nomination forms from the Awami League to contest in the 12th national parliamentary elections from Dhaka-17 and Tangail-1 constituencies but did not receive a nomination.

Earlier, following the death of MP and actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque, Siddik also sought the Awami League nomination in the Dhaka-17 by-election but was denied. The party instead nominated Mohammad Ali Arafat, who won the seat with the boat symbol defeating a man popularly known as Hero Alam, earned name and fame by social media presence.

Siddiq is known for his humorous acting, specially on television and Youtube channels.
