An accused in a domestic violence case escaped from police custody with handcuffs after allegedly assaulting officers in Fulgazi upazila of Feni.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm on Tuesday (15 July) in the Amzadhat area of Fulgazi. The fugitive has been identified as Kabir Ahmed Chowdhury, also known by his alias, who is accused in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to police sources, three officers were injured during the attack. They are Sub-Inspector Rafid, Assistant Sub-Inspector Didar, and Constable Sumon—all attached to the Chhagalnaiya Police Station.
The police said a team had conducted a raid at Kabir’s residence to arrest him on Tuesday night. Although he was initially detained, Kabir managed to flee with his handcuffs during a scuffle. His relatives and associates allegedly launched a violent assault on the officers, leaving three of them injured.
Chhagalnaiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident and said six individuals involved in the attack had been detained. “Legal action will be taken regarding the assault on police and the escape of the accused,” he stated.
Kabir was formerly the organising secretary of Ward No. 4 unit of the BNP in Amzadhat Union. However, Fulgazi Upazila BNP convener Fakhrul Alam said Kabir was served a show-cause notice on 6 October last year for breaching party discipline. As his response was unsatisfactory, his organisational position was suspended at the time.
