Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Gulshan Anwar Pradhan, who had filed a case against Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, has been withdrawn just five and a half months after being transferred to Cox’s Bazar as ACC deputy director.

This was disclosed in an office order signed by ACC Director (Administration & Human Resources) Daud Hossain Chowdhury on Thursday.

ACC sources claim that Gulshan Anwar has now been transferred to the Integrated District Office in Pirojpur as a form of “punitive transfer”.

According to the order, Md Rashedul Islam, deputy director of the ACC Intelligence Unit at the head office, has been assigned to replace Pradhan as deputy director of the Cox’s Bazar office.

A total of six deputy directors were transferred to different locations under this order. The transferred officials have been instructed to join their new posts by July 27.

Mentionable, Gulshan Anwar was the complainant in the case filed by the ACC on May 30, 2023 against Yunus and top officials of Grameen Telecom during the Awami League government.

At that time, Gulshan Anwar was serving as deputy director (Money Laundering) at the ACC central office. He submitted a charge sheet against Yunus and 13 other officials of Grameen Telecom, alleging embezzlement of Tk 25 crore.

However, on April 23, 2024, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed and a four-member bench, unanimously dismissed the case.

Sources claim that Gulshan Anwar was known for orchestrating corruption cases against politically significant individuals. He reportedly took the initiative to file the case against Yunus with excessive enthusiasm.
