In the case of a procession by several thousand Awami League leaders and activists in Tejgaon, Dhaka, the court has granted a four-day remand for seven individuals under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Additionally, another accused has been sent to jail.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order on Saturday after hearing both the state and the defense.
The accused sent on remand are: Ziaur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Abdur Rahman, Fahim Talukdar, Md. Firoz Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, and Omar Faruq. The other accused sent to jail is Ridwan Rafi.
On that day, Sub-Inspector Md Abu Isa of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station produced the accused in court and applied for a seven-day remand. Lawyer Rezaul Haq from the prosecution side argued in favour of granting the remand.
Earlier, on Friday, during a flash procession in the Tejgaon area of the capital, nine leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations were arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to case details, on Friday, after Jummah’s prayers, Awami League leaders and activists organised a flash procession in front of Rahim Metal Mosque in Tejgaon. At that time, they chanted anti-state and anti-government slogans, inciting terrorism.
Regarding this incident, police filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in the capital.
