A Dhaka court has barred Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman Ghulam Muhammad (GM) Quader and his wife, Sherifa Quader, from traveling abroad amid ongoing corruption investigations.
The order was issued on September 1 by Acting Judge Md Ibrahim Miah of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Deputy Director of Public Relations Akterul Islam confirmed to reporters today.
In its request, the ACC highlighted that an inquiry is underway into allegations of corruption and misuse of power against GM Quader and associates, focusing particularly on the accumulation of wealth disproportionate to known sources of income.
According to the commission, the Quader family reportedly owns significant movable and immovable assets in Bangladesh and overseas, allegedly acquired through illicit means.
The petition further claimed that “confidential and reliable sources” indicate GM Quader and his wife have been attempting to transfer assets and leave the country, raising concerns that such actions could hinder the ongoing investigation. The ACC urged that a travel restriction be imposed immediately to ensure the probe proceeds without obstruction.
