At least 32 people were killed on Tuesday in the Indian-administered Kashmir region after a landslide struck a pilgrimage route following heavy rainfall.

Press Trust of India confirmed about the casualties on Wednesday.

The landslide occurred amid ongoing monsoon rains, which have caused widespread damage in the Himalayan region. Rescue teams, including police and disaster response personnel, were deployed to the site. Officials said the number of casualties may rise as operations continue.

In recent weeks, nearly 100 people have died across India in rain-related incidents. Experts warn that unplanned construction and deforestation have increased the risk of landslides in the area.

Meanwhile, across the border in Pakistan, heavy rains have triggered flooding in Punjab province, displacing over 150,000 people. More than 20,000 residents were evacuated overnight from low-lying areas around Lahore, according to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority.

Rising water levels in the Ravi, Chenab and Sutlej rivers have inundated villages in multiple districts. Rescue teams have been using boats to evacuate stranded residents.

Since late June, flooding across Pakistan has claimed more than 800 lives.
