Bangladesh’s under-21 archery team missed out on medals at the World Junior Archery Championship in Winnipeg, Canada, after losing to Australia in the bronze medal match. The red-and-green jerseyed archers had earlier fallen short in the individual event but fought hard in the team competition before coming up short.
The Bangladeshi recurve men’s team, comprising Sagar, Abdur Rahman Alif, and Rakib, had reached the semifinals by defeating Poland and Mexico in earlier rounds. However, they were convincingly beaten 1–5 in set points by a strong South Korean side in the semifinals.
In the bronze medal match, Bangladesh faced Australia and suffered the same 1–5 defeat, leaving the team without a medal. South Korea went on to secure gold by defeating the United States by the same margin.
In the individual competition, Alif faced Slovakian archer Daniel in the round of 16. After five sets, the match was tied at 5–5 in set points, but Alif lost 7–9 in the tiebreaker. Alif had received a two-step bye in the earlier ranking round due to finishing seventh.
Before defeating Alif, Daniel had beaten another Bangladeshi archer, Sagar, in the round of 24 by 6–2 in set points. Another Bangladeshi archer was eliminated in the same stage after losing 6–0 to India’s Huda Porsha.
Bangladesh’s participation in both individual and team categories was limited to the male recurve under-21 division. Due to the long distance and high costs of travelling to Canada, the Bangladesh Archery Federation sent only three male archers, with no female recurve or compound archers participating.
