Seventeen popular film and television actors have been named in an attempted murder case filed in Dhaka, police confirmed on Tuesday (April 29).
The case was lodged at the capital’s Bhatara Police Station, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Majharul Islam told reporters.
Among the accused are prominent celebrities such as actresses Apu Biswas, Nipun Akter, Nusrat Faria, Suborna Mustafa, Rokeya Prachy, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Sohana Saba, Meher Afroz Shaon, Jyotika Jyoti, and actors Simon Sadiq, Zayed Khan, and Azizul Hakim.
The lawsuit also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 283 individuals associated with her administration, and several hundred unidentified persons as co-accused.
According to the plaintiff, Enamul Haque, he was shot in Dhaka’s Bhatara area during the anti-discrimination student protests held in July-August 2024.
In the complaint, Enamul alleges that the accused celebrities actively supported the ruling Awami League by providing substantial financial assistance to suppress the protests. The resulting violence, he claims, led to him being wounded by gunfire.
Authorities are currently investigating the allegations.
