Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has remarked that the teachers who lost their lives in the Milestone School and College jet crash – Mahreen Chowdhury, Masuka Begum, and Mahfuza Khanum – will be eternally remembered by the nation as exemplars of humanity and courage.
On Tuesday, the families of the three deceased teachers met with Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Present at the meeting were Mahreen Chowdhury’s husband Monsur Helal, their sons Adil Rashid and Ayan Rashid, her sister Mehetaj Chowdhury, brother Munaf Mojib Chowdhury, and close relative Kausar Hossain Chowdhury; Masuka Begum’s sister Papri Rahman and brother-in-law Khalilur Rahman; and Mahfuza Khanum’s daughter Ayesha Siddika, sister Murshida Khanum, nephew Md Maidul Islam, and close relative Humayun Kabir.
CA points out, “Even though time has passed, the memory of this tragedy remains vivid for everyone. I wanted to meet you as soon as I learned of the incident, but given the difficult time you were going through, it would not have been appropriate then. While we can offer our condolences, we do not have the power to erase this painful memory. But I can assure you that this grief is not yours alone; as a nation, we share it.”
During the meeting, the chief adviser listened to the families’ memories of the three teachers.
Also present were advisers Rizwana Hasan (Environment), Nurjahan Begum (Health), Farida Akhter (Fisheries and Livestock), Sharmin S Murshid (Women and Children Affairs), Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan (Road Transport & Bridges, and Power, Energy & Mineral Resources), CR Abrar (Education), Adilur Rahman Khan (Housing & Public Works), and Lamia Morshed, chief coordinator on SDGs for the chief adviser.
