National team cricketer Towhid Hridoy has strongly denied rumours that he has travelled abroad for hair treatment, clarifying that he is in Sirajganj’s Enayetpur arranging medical care for his mother, who is battling cancer.

Over the past few days, some media outlets reported that the 24-year-old, absent from the national team’s skills camp ahead of the Netherlands series and the Asia Cup, was overseas receiving treatment for hair loss. Hridoy, who was part of Bangladesh’s U-19 World Cup-winning squad, described these claims as baseless and hurtful.

In a Facebook post, Hridoy explained:

“I have been in Bangladesh for several days now. From morning till night, I have been taking my mother to the hospital in Enayetpur for her cancer treatment. At such a time, getting so many calls just to check if I am in England or Turkey is truly embarrassing.

How much lower will you go for the sake of view-based business? Even though I am a public figure, I am also a human being. I too can have family problems and I am not always in a good mental state. I haven’t had time to answer the phone, so I’m clarifying it here.”

Hridoy had recently visited London and posted photos of his trip on 6 August, but he has since returned to Bangladesh. He stressed that his absence from training is due solely to his mother’s illness, not for any personal cosmetic procedure.

Under strength and conditioning coach Nathan Kelly, other national team players are continuing their skills camp. Hridoy’s absence prompted the initial speculation, but his public statement makes it clear that his priority at the moment is his family.
