Towhid Hridoy, captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club, will be suspended for the team’s upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL) clash against Gazi Group on 26 April, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Wednesday.

Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the BCB’s cricket operations chairman and newly appointed convener of the CCDM technical committee, stated that Hridoy’s premature return to action — after serving only one match of a two-match ban — had violated established procedures and that the original suspension would now be enforced.

The episode has stirred considerable controversy within the domestic cricket scene and has exposed glaring administrative lapses. The fallout has already claimed a significant casualty, with former CCDM technical committee convener Enamul Haque Moni resigning in protest at the handling of the case.

According to Fahim, the situation arose from an unauthorised alteration to disciplinary bylaws. “I think we went outside of the process,” he admitted. “Internally, the decision that was taken by changing the bylaws was not under the jurisdiction of this committee. So we have to follow the previous rules and regulations.”

While the decision to allow Hridoy to play before completing his full suspension cannot be reversed retroactively, Fahim confirmed that the recent changes to the sanctioning process had now been rendered void.

“The change we made recently will have to be accepted as void and the previous rule will have to be reinstated,” he said.

When asked whether the revised directive issued by the umpires’ department — pertaining to demerit points and suspensions — had been officially rescinded, Fahim replied unequivocally: “Yes, the rule has been scrapped.”

The reinstatement of Hridoy’s suspension rules him out of Mohammedan’s key fixture against Gazi Group, in what could prove a decisive blow to their campaign. The incident has raised broader concerns about governance and transparency in Bangladeshi domestic cricket, with calls for systemic reform growing louder.
