Bangladesh Bank will introduce a redesigned Tk100 banknote on 12 August, incorporating enhanced security elements to deter counterfeiting and improve durability.

A press release from the central bank’s Communications and Publications Department on Sunday said the note will feature 10 security upgrades, including a bold “100” in colour-shifting ink, a twisted security thread visible through four windows, and ultraviolet-reactive text reading “100 Taka” and “Bangladesh Bank.”

Three raised dots along the edge will assist visually impaired users in identifying the denomination by touch. Other enhancements include a see-through “100” that aligns perfectly under light, microprinted text, ultra-fine UV fibres, and a glossy protective layer to extend lifespan.

The 140mm by 62mm note will retain the current size but come with richer colours, sharper printing and higher-detail reproductions of national symbols, the Bangladesh Bank logo and security clauses.

The redesigned note will debut from the central bank’s Motijheel branch before distribution across the country. Both old and new Tk 100 notes will remain valid as legal tender under the bank’s ongoing currency modernisation initiative, which has already updated the Tk 1,000, Tk 50 and Tk 20 denominations.
