A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist was stabbed to death in Panchagarh town on Wednesday night over a previous rivalry.
The deceased was identified as Zaber Rahman Joy, 18, son of late Zahirul Islam of Akheri Road in Panchagarh municipality. Joy used to work as a manager at a fruit wholesale shop in the town.
According to police and locals, Joy had a dispute with two other JCD activists named Al Amin and Parvez in the Tinpatti area which was apparently resolved through mediation early Wednesday.
Later, the JCD men called Joy over phone and asked him to meet at Cinema Hall Market area around 8:30pm. During the meet, they locked into an altercation again and at one point the two alleged assailants stabbed him with sharp weapons.
Locals took him to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital but his condition deteriorated, he succumbed to his injuries on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Abdullah Hil Zaman, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, said additional police and army personnel were deployed in the town to avoid further escalation of the situation.
He said the body has been sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and a process is underway to file a case.
