Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus started reading out the ‘July Declaration’ in presence of political leaders, at 5:21 pm on Tuesday.
Top leaders from the major political parties, including BNP, Jamaat and National Citizen Party (NCP), joined the event at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.
The programme began with the playing of the national anthem. A video documentary was also screened.
The celebrations for ’36 July’ began at 11 a.m. Tuesday with a series of cultural events, marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising. The day is being observed with a vibrant display of cultural performances, celebrating the spirit of the movement that led to the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Thousands of people began gathering at Manik Mia Avenue from early morning, undeterred by the rain, to take part in the ‘July Proclamation’ reading ceremony. The crowd steadily grew throughout the day, with many chanting slogans in unison. Some sought refuge under trees, while others braved the rain, holding umbrellas as they moved towards the stage. Many participants waved the national flag, and some proudly wore badges representing the July Declaration.
The day is being commemorated across the capital under the banner of ’36 July,’ organized by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The event’s schedule began with a performance by the Simum Artists Group at 11:20 a.m., followed by a performance by the Kolorob Artists Group. After noon, the festivities continued with performances by Chittagong Hip Hop Hood, Sejan, and the Shunyo Band.
The cultural celebrations reflect a collective sense of national pride and unity, as citizens come together to honor the historic moment and the sacrifices made during the July Uprising. As the day unfolds, the people of Dhaka continue to pay tribute to the movement that shaped the nation’s political landscape.
