A total of 39 Bangladeshi nationals, identified as undocumented immigrants in the United States, have been deported and arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning.
The deportees landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after 6:45am aboard a C‑17 Globemaster-III military aircraft operated by the US Air Force. Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier stated that 61 individuals would be repatriated, only 39 were ultimately deported on this flight, according to officials.
The immigration processing of the returnees was ongoing at the time of reporting.
Foreign ministry sources said the US government had informed Dhaka of the deportation through an official message sent to the Consular and Welfare Division. This move is part of an intensified crackdown on undocumented immigrants under the administration of US President Donald Trump, now serving his second term.
According to a foreign ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the United States continues to repatriate small groups of Bangladeshi nationals at regular intervals under this policy. A total of 118 Bangladeshis have been deported in separate phases so far.
