The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has confirmed that an army officer, identified as Major Sadikul Haque, will face strict disciplinary action following allegations of political involvement. The officer will be punished in accordance with the Bangladesh Army’s established laws and regulations.
The ISPR disclosed the information in a press release issued on Friday afternoon. According to the statement, the officer’s detention was linked to accusations of training Awami League activists in a secret meeting.
Earlier, the Army Headquarters had reported that Major Haque was detained on July 17, 2025, from his residence in Uttara, Dhaka, after the allegations surfaced. The army confirmed that the officer was immediately taken into military custody.
The ISPR emphasized the seriousness with which the Bangladesh Army handled the matter, stating, “A law enforcement agency recently reported allegations regarding the political involvement of a certain military officer. The Bangladesh Army took immediate action upon receiving the complaint.”
To ensure a fair investigation, a military tribunal was set up to review the case. The initial investigation validated the allegations, and the army pledged that disciplinary measures would be enforced according to its rules after the completion of the full inquiry.
In the same release, the ISPR indicated that coordination with Bangladesh Police and other law enforcement agencies was ongoing to thoroughly investigate the case. A separate tribunal is also looking into the issue of the officer’s absence from duty.
The press release concluded with a strong reaffirmation of Bangladesh Army’s stance on political neutrality. “The Bangladesh Army is a completely apolitical, disciplined, and professional institution. There is no place for political involvement within its ranks. Any army personnel found involved in political activities will face appropriate action under military law. Bangladesh Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and constitutional responsibility among all its members,” it stated.
