The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into an allegation that former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque unlawfully received a plot from the RAJUK through misusing his power.
ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain confirmed the news after his arrest on Thursday morning.
Justice Khairul Haque was allotted a 10-katha plot in the Purbachal New Town Project in 2003. As he failed to pay the first installment of Tk 6.5 lakh as per the terms of the allotment, the RAJUK decided to cancel the allocation, according to the ACC official.
However, in 2009, he allegedly regained possession of the plot illegally, in collusion with corrupt officials from the departments and ministries concerned of the then-government.
He further stated that instead of paying the full amount, Justice Khairul submitted a cheque for the first installment from six years earlier, which was never encashed.
Nevertheless, after his retirement, the plot was unlawfully transferred to him under the condition that he would pay all dues.
As part of a Fact-Finding Commission initiative, the ACC has decided to investigate allegations that Khairul Haque unlawfully acquired the plot in collusion with dishonest officials from the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
