Met office foresees continued rain accompanied by thunderstorms across the country for the next five days. Moderate to heavy rain is likely in several regions, and temperatures may also rise during this period.

The persistent downpour has triggered waterlogging and caused significant damage to agriculture in various districts. In Khulna’s Dumuria upazila, vast areas have been inundated. Homes, roads, ponds, and shrimp farms in 226 villages under 14 unions have gone underwater. Local farmers say they are unable to prepare seedbeds for Aman paddy due to the waterlogging, raising concerns over serious disruptions in the upcoming cultivation season.

In flood-hit Feni, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) provided free medical services and distributed medicines in Chitholia village of Parshuram upazila. On Wednesday, the 4th Battalion of BGB organised a medical camp at the premises of Chitholia Government Primary School, offering treatment to around 1,500 people.

Meanwhile, in Joypurhat’s Khetlal upazila, a college student was killed by lightning while working in the field during the rain. The deceased, Abdul Hannan Zafar, 25, was a third-year accounting student at Akkelpur MR Degree College.

In Natore’s Lalpur upazila, the historic Srisundari Pilot Model High School has become inoperative due to waterlogging even after light rainfall. On-site visits on Wednesday showed water entering classrooms, with students wading through foul-smelling drain water to attend classes. School authorities blamed the lack of a proper drainage system and said the issue persists despite repeated calls for attention from the local administration.
