The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has raised alarm over the unauthorised use of the country’s name, flag, and its official logo by teams of physically challenged cricketers who have recently travelled abroad for international tours.
The BCB has expressed concerns regarding these unauthorised activities, which it believes could not only mislead international audiences but also tarnish the reputation of both the Board and the nation. The issue was discussed in detail during a recent meeting of the BCB Board, with board members voicing serious concerns about the growing number of instances where unofficial teams, claiming affiliation with Bangladesh, have participated in foreign cricket tours.
In a statement issued by the Board, the BCB clarified that the use of the name “Bangladesh”, its national flag, and the BCB’s official logo is strictly prohibited unless prior written approval has been granted by the relevant authorities, including the BCB and, where necessary, the Government of Bangladesh.
The Board further stated that any tour or event undertaken without proper authorisation would be deemed unofficial. The individuals or organisations involved would be held solely responsible for any repercussions arising from such unauthorised activities.
Legal Action to Follow
In a firm response, the BCB has vowed to take legal and disciplinary action against any individual or organisation found misusing the Board’s identity. “The BCB disclaims any responsibility or liability for unauthorised use of its logo or representation in international events by unofficial teams or entities,” the statement read.
The Board is urging all stakeholders, including other cricketing bodies, sponsors, media outlets, and the general public, to verify the legitimacy of teams that claim affiliation with the BCB. The Board has emphasised that any such claims made without formal approval should be regarded with caution.
The BCB’s stern stance highlights its commitment to protecting the integrity of the Bangladesh national cricket team and ensuring that the country’s identity is not misrepresented in any capacity.
