A 60-year-old farmer was allegedly hacked to death by his unemployed son after being denied to provide drug money at Baira village in Lohagara upazila of Narail on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Afsar Sheikh, a farmer by profession. Following the incident, the farmer’s 24-year-old son, Khairul Sheikh, fled the scene.

Khairul frequently quarrelled with his parents demanding money for drugs. He often used to vandalise various household items.

Following a similar dispute, an altercation broke out between Khairul and his father on Thursday afternoon. At one stage, Khairul hacked his father on the hand, chest, stomach, and head with a cleaver, causing his death. Khairul’s mother and wife were present at the scene.

The body of Afsar Sheikh is being sent to Narail District Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shariful Islam said, drives are underway to arrest the absconding Khairul.
