Both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers have dropped in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Sylhet Education Board.
The pass rate stands at 50.90 per cent, with 1,204 candidates securing GPA-5.
In comparison, the board recorded a 51.86 per cent pass rate and 1,602 GPA-5 achievers last year.
This year’s result marks the lowest performance in the 20-year history of the Sylhet Education Board.
Since its establishment in 2006, the board’s pass rate had never fallen below 60 per cent until last year, when it recorded 51.86 per cent, dropping even further this year.
The Controller of Examinations of the board Bilkis Yasmin, presented the detailed results at a press conference held at 11am on Saturday in the conference room of the Sylhet Education Board.
According to the official results, not a single student passed from three institutions under the board this year.
Conversely, six educational institutions achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.
An analysis of the performance reveals that female students outperformed male students across all indicators.
The pass rate for female examinees was 52.38 per cent, with 591 achieving GPA-5. Meanwhile, the pass rate for male examinees stood at 48.72 per cent, with 613 securing GPA-5.
In terms of group-wise performance, the Science stream recorded a pass rate of 68.54 per cent, followed by the Business Studies stream at 47.81 per cent, and the Humanities stream at 46.29 per cent.
