Three fake voters have been detained during the by-election in Thakurgaon-1 constituency, which comprises Sadar, Ruhia and Bhulli upazilas.
The detention took place around noon on Thursday at the Danarhat Ansaria Fazil Madrasa polling centre in Sadar upazila.
Presiding Officer Muhammad Abu Sayem confirmed the matter. He said, “With the assistance of journalists, we found three fake voters. An executive magistrate arrived and questioned them. For the time being, they have been kept confined in a room. Action will be taken shortly.”
The detainees are Himel, a second-year Alim student from the area, and Mohammad Siam and Minhaj Ali, who are first-year Alim students.
