The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division has launched a special drive to relocate long-waiting buses from the capital’s Mohakhali Bus Terminal area to a temporary bus depot in Purbachal.
The operation has been initiated to ease traffic congestion, restore discipline on the streets, and ensure hassle-free movement of passengers in Mohakhali Bus Terminal area.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman inspected the drive on Tuesday.
He said buses waiting for a long time, including those running at intervals (“gap buses”), are being systematically shifted to the temporary bus depot in Purbachal in phases.
A designated number of buses have already been moved, and the remaining vehicles will be relocated gradually.
“The primary objective of this drive is to restore order in the terminal area and ensure the seamless movement of passengers,” Rahman said. “Necessary facilities have been ensured at the temporary depot in Purbachal. We seek the co-operation of all bus owners and drivers”.
According to DMP Traffic Division, a sufficient number of police personnel have been deployed during the operation to manage traffic congestion and maintain law and order.
Bus owners and drivers have been requested to move long-waiting buses from Mohakhali Terminal to Purbachal temporary depot, in accordance with the issued instructions.
The Traffic Division highlighted that such initiatives will continue to alleviate traffic congestion and bring discipline to public transport management in Mohakhali Terminal area.
