Stephen Rodriques has officially assumed his role as the new Resident Representative for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh, succeeding Stefan Liller. In his new capacity, Rodriques will spearhead the UNDP’s operations in the country and supervise its support for national development priorities.
He is tasked with working in close coordination with the Government of Bangladesh, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and local communities. His leadership will focus on advancing inclusive development, bolstering resilience, and accelerating the country’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
Upon his arrival, Rodriques said it is a “privilege” to join the UNDP team in Bangladesh and contribute to the nation’s ongoing development journey.
“I look forward to working with the Government and people of Bangladesh, as well as our development partners, to build on existing achievements and advance solutions that are inclusive, sustainable and responsive to the needs of communities,” he added.
A national of Jamaica, Rodriques brings more than 30 years of experience in international development and public-sector leadership to the position. His extensive career with the UNDP includes serving as the Resident Representative in Afghanistan, Liberia, and Rwanda, as well as the Deputy Country Director in Indonesia.
Before joining the United Nations, Rodriques held several senior positions within the Government of Jamaica, where he contributed significantly to public administration and national development initiatives.
