US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus over the phone on Monday evening. The discussion reportedly centered on bilateral relations and security cooperation between the two countries.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the details, stating that the 15-minute conversation was “cordial, friendly, and constructive,” reflecting the strong bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the United States.
Meanwhile, the US State Department noted that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic relations and enhancing security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region during their call.
This development follows recent discussions between the two nations regarding the supplementary tariffs imposed by the US on Bangladeshi goods.
The Chief Adviser’s office had earlier stated that negotiations with the Trump administration would continue on Saturday to finalise an agreement.
A meeting on the matter was held in Washington on Thursday, where Bangladesh was represented by National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, while the US delegation was led by an assistant trade representative.
