The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast moderate to very heavy rainfall across different regions over the next four days, driven by a low‑pressure trough stretching from West Bengal to the north Bay of Bengal.
In its latest bulletin Tuesday, the BMD warned of rain or thundershowers with gusty winds and lightning across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, with scattered showers in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram. The outlook covers a five‑day period of heavy rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy downpours are likely in isolated places of Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet. Temperatures are expected to remain steady nationwide.
It also said rain or thundershowers and lightning across much of the country from Thursday through Saturday. Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are expected to witness widespread showers, with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours in several areas.
Rangpur and Rajshahi will also face scattered rainfall. Temperatures are forecast to remain steady through Friday, before edging up slightly nationwide on Saturday. The Met office cautioned that conditions may include squally winds, urging vigilance in vulnerable areas.
It also cautioned that squally or stormy winds up to 60 kmph may sweep across 16 districts. River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal No. 1.
According to the inland river port forecast valid from 5am to 1pm Wednesday, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet may experience gusts of 45–60 kmph accompanied by rain or thundershowers.
