The protesting students of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to press home their five-point demand, which includes resolving the ongoing accommodation crisis.

The ultimatum was announced at a press conference following a meeting with the college principal on Sunday noon.

Abdullah Noman, a fifth-year student and one of the protestors, said, “We had a meeting with the principal at 10:30 am today, but no clear assurance was given by the college administration. Therefore, we are not leaving the halls.”

He further stated, “We are giving a 24-hour ultimatum to resolve the accommodation crisis. Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum and the ministry team must visit the risky halls by 12 pm on Monday. If they fail to do so, our movement will intensify.”

In response, Principal Kamrul Alam said, “The students are like our children. They must vacate the halls for their own safety, as we are preparing to begin necessary activities.”

On Saturday, the college authorities declared DMC closed for an indefinite period amid a deadlock over the students’ five-point charter of demands.

Students were instructed to vacate the dormitories by 12 pm on Sunday, but they refused and declared they would continue staying in the halls until their demands were fulfilled.
