Met office has warned of possible landslides in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), including Rangamati, over the next 72 hours starting Wednesday morning due to heavy rainfall.

BMD Assistant Meteorologist Afruza Sultana stated that maritime ports in Chattogram, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 3 during this period. Local river ports have also been asked to display Cautionary Signal No. 1.

Rain or thunderstorms with lightning are expected in all divisions, including Dhaka, over the next 120 hours starting from 9 am Wednesday.

According to the latest BMD update, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at most places across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas.

Daytime temperatures may drop slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country.

In the last 24 hours until 6 am Wednesday, Khulna recorded the highest rainfall at 111 millimeters, resulting in flooding and waterlogging in parts of the district. The highest temperature, 35.8°C, was recorded in Sylhet, while the lowest, 23.3°C, was recorded in Bandarban.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over southwestern Bangladesh and adjoining regions has intensified into a well-marked low over Gangetic West Bengal and nearby southwestern Bangladesh. It is expected to move northwestward.

The axis of the monsoon currently runs through Bihar, the center of the well-marked low, and Assam via southern Bangladesh. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.
