A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand petition for the four accused arrested in connection with the murder of plastic scrap businessman Md Zakir Hossain, who was cut into six pieces in the Sabujbagh area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah’s court issued this order on Friday after the hearing.
Sub-inspector Md Shamsul Amin presented the defendants in court and requested a seven-day remand for suitable investigation. The accused are Azhar Ali, Shukkur Ali, Md Rajib, and Swapan.
After the hearing, the court granted a five-day remand for each. Earlier on Thursday morning, police recovered the victim’s body by digging sand from a bush in the Baigdia area.
Zakir lived with his family in the Baikdia area under Sabujbagh Police Station. On June 4, he went missing, and his relatives’ extensive search efforts yielded no results.
The following day, his wife, Rekha Begum, filed a General Diary at the local police station citing disappearance. With no trace of Zakir, on June 10, Rekha filed an abduction case, naming Azhar Ali and several unidentified individuals as suspects. The case stated that Zakir frequently socialised with Azhar and four-five others near his home.
On the morning of June 4, Zakir left his house for his business, but never returned. When contacted by phone at around 11:45pm, Zakir reportedly told his family he was at Azhar’s house and had Tk 2.5 lakh with him.
However, attempts to reach Azhar via phone later that night was unsuccessful as it was switched off. Despite further searches in various locations, Zakir remained missing, leading his family to suspect he had been abducted and that Azhar might be involved.
