The moon of Zil Hajj in has been sighted in Saudi Arabia and, accordingly, Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated there on June 6, with Hajj slated to begin on June 5.
In Bangladesh, the National Moon Sighting Committee will meet at Baitul Mukarram at 6:30pm on Wednesday to determine the Eid date. The meeting will be chaired by the Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain.
The Islamic Foundation has requested that the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon anywhere in the country be reported via phone at 02-223381725, 02-41050912, 02-41050916, or 02-41050917, or via fax at 02-223383397 or 02-9555951. Information can also be shared with the respective deputy commissioner (DC) and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).
Although the holidays for Eid-ul-Azha this year were originally from from June 5 to June 10, the government earlier this month announced a 10-day holiday, adding that government offices would remain open for two additional days to compensate for the extra break: May 17 and May 24, both Saturdays.
As a result, employees will enjoy a 10-day break from June 5 to June 14, including the weekends before and after Eid.
If the moon is sighted in Bangladesh on Wednesday night, Eid is likely to be celebrated on June 7.
