The Election Commission (EC) has directed its regional election officers to categorise and prioritise cases through a newly introduced digital reporting mechanism implemented to streamline system to accelerate the processing of National Identity Card correction applications.

In a Tuesday directive issued by Muhammad Hasanuzzaman, director of the EC’s National Identity Registration Division, regional election officers were instructed to classify applications into three distinct groups — general citizens, expatriates, and government employees — and submit investigative reports using standardised digital forms ‘to the designated table’, reports BSS.

The revamped procedure requires investigation officers to determine applicants’ occupational categories before completing designated a T-1, T-2, or T-3 forms, which must then be electronically forwarded to settling officers with reference numbers.

This operational shift follows the secretariat’s approval of three separate investigation protocols tailored to different applicant profiles to address longstanding bureaucratic delays in NID data corrections, a critical service affecting millions of citizens’ access to government facilities and financial services.
