Police have recovered the bodies of nine individuals from separate locations in Munshiganj on Sunday and Monday. This has caused various questions and panic among people.
On Sunday, the bodies of three laborers were recovered from inside a septic tank in the Boro Bazar area of Munshiganj town, and three more bodies were found in separate locations in Srinagar and Sirajdikhan upazilas. On Sunday, three more bodies were recovered from different places in Srinagar.
In the two days prior, an auto-rickshaw driver, Faisal (15), and a young man in Dinga Bhanja had died under mysterious circumstances. Police recovered both bodies and sent them to the morgue.
The bodies of three laborers were recovered from inside a septic tank of an under-construction building in Munshiganj town. It is reported that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when they went down to work in the septic tank of an under-construction building owned by expatriate Sabuj Kazi in Khalaist Ekakay, adjacent to Munshiganj Boro Bazar.
The deceased are: Shahin Islam (28) from Panchagarh, Firoz Mia (18) from Gaibandha, and Ibrahim (25) from Bogura.
Police, Fire Service, and local eyewitnesses stated that the deceased laborers had been working on the sewerage and other tasks at the under-construction building since Sunday morning.
Around 4pm, after finishing cleaning the septic tank centering, two labourers first entered the tank to install the top cover. Due to the accumulation of toxic gas inside the tank, they fell ill. Two more laborers went down to rescue them and also fell ill and got trapped. Later, locals realised and informed the Fire Service.
Upon receiving the news, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. Using machines, they removed the toxic gas that had accumulated inside the under-construction septic tank and brought out the deceased laborers.
Regarding this, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, said that upon receiving the news, a Fire Service team quickly rushed to the spot. However, the three labourers had already died inside the septic tank before that. The bodies of the three labourers were recovered.
Investigation Officer Shamsul Islam of Munshiganj Sadar Thana said that three labourers died while cleaning a septic tank in the Khalaist area of the town. The bodies were then sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy. Legal action will be taken pending investigation.
On the same morning, police recovered the body of a farmer named Aynal Haque (65) from a banana grove in the Atpara area of Srinagar upazila, Munshiganj.
His body was recovered from his own banana grove in East Atpara village on Sunday morning. The deceased Aynal Haque was a resident of that area.
Acting Officer of Srinagar Thana, Nazmul Huda Khan, stated that based on information from the deceased’s wife, Shahida Begum, it was learned that Aynal Haque had been missing since after 8pm on Saturday. Family members searched for him all night but could not find him. The next morning, locals saw his brutally injured body lying in the adjacent banana grove and screamed, prompting people from the surrounding area to rush in and inform the police.
Acting Officer of Srinagar Thana, Nazmul Huda Khan, said that injury marks were found on several parts of the body. However, it cannot be confirmed yet whether it was a murder. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy. The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, around 8am on Sunday, the body of a young man named Akash Rishi (22) was found hanging from the loft of his room in Rishipara, Rashunia village, Sirajdikhan upazila. He was the son of Neel Krishna Rishi. The family assumes he committed suicide by hanging.
On the same day at noon, the body of a man named Amjad Hossain Dhali (45) was found floating in the Dhaleshwari river in the Patharghata area of North Patha, Sirajdikhan upazila. Amjad Dhali, a resident of Hazratpur Union, Keraniganj Upazila, was the elder brother of local Chhatra Dal leader Shimul Ahmed Saddam.
Meanwhile, on Monday, police recovered three more bodies from separate incidents in Srinagar. These include the death of a drug-addicted son by his father’s stabbing, the recovery of an elderly man’s body under mysterious circumstances, and the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body beside railway tracks.
According to police and local sources, on Monday morning, in Dewanpara, Sholghar Union of the upazila, drug-addicted son Abdur Ahad (34) demanded Tk15,000 from his father. Not getting the money, he attempted to attack his father with a knife. In self-defense, Abul Hossain (65) snatched the knife and stabbed him in the chest and abdomen. Ahad died on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy, detaining the father.
Also on Monday morning, police recovered the body of a man named Mamun Kazi (70) from Brahmin Paiksha village in Kolapara Union of the upazila. As there were injury marks on his body, law enforcement initially suspects the incident to be mysterious.
Furthermore, around 8:30 AM, Srinagar Fire Service personnel recovered the body of an unidentified woman beside the Ghulghor railway tracks.
OC Nazmul Huda Khan of Srinagar Thana said that all three bodies have been sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy. The separate incidents are under investigation.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Srinagar Circle, Anisur Rahman, stated that the thana police are investigating the body recovery and the son’s killing separately. The matter of the woman on the railway is being handled by the railway police. Overall, legal proceedings are underway.
