At least 70 Palestinians have been killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
According to an on-ground report by Qatar-based media Al Jazeera, an airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood on Saturday claimed 70 lives. Among the dead were at least 16 members of a single family, including women and children.
Gaza’s civil defense force has described the attack as “complete genocide.” Spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told Al Jazeera that the strike was carried out “without any prior warning or announcement.”
He stated, “The building was full of civilians. We fear around 85 people remain trapped under the rubble.”
Survivor Hamed Kahil recounted, “We woke up to the sound of destruction. On Eid day, where we should be dressing our children for celebration, we’re instead pulling their bodies from beneath the wreckage.”
The attack occurred on the second day of Eid al-Adha, as many Palestinians had gathered to receive humanitarian aid. Another strike near an aid center killed at least eight more people.
The UN has warned of worsening acute malnutrition among Gaza’s children amid the ongoing conflict.
Local residents say Israel’s attacks have turned their Eid celebrations into mourning and grief, with the situation growing increasingly dire.
