The last day of collecting nominations for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election ends in a festive mood as 442 candidates collect forms. This brings the total number of candidates to 565.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Jasim Uddin shared the information at a press conference at the election office at Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Saturday afternoon.
Besides, 1,226 students have collected nomination papers for various positions in 18 halls of Dhaka University.
Among the DU halls, 71 candidates have collected nomination papers for Salimullah Muslim Hall, 97 for Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, 66 for Jagannath Hall, 78 for Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, 93 for Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, 90 for Surya Sen Hall, 74 for Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, 74 for Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall, 87 for Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, 69 for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, 84 for Amar Ekushey Hall, 88 for Bijoy Ekattor Hall, and 73 for AF Rahman Hall.
Among the female dormitories, 46 candidates have collected nomination papers for Rokeya Hall, 37 for Shamsunnahar Hall, 29 for Kuwait Maitree Hall, 30 for Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, and 40 for Sufia Kamal Hall.
Prof Jasim Uddin said that no serious violation of the code of conduct was observed during the collection of nomination papers.
The final list of candidates will be published on August 26. The DUCSU elections for the first time will be held outside the residential halls on September 9.
Meanwhile, the DUCSU election schedule was announced on July 29. Students from the last 2019-20 session to the current academic year will be able to become candidates and voters in the DUCSU elections. The last DUCSU elections were held in 2019.
