Five more people died from dengue in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, bringing this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 336.
During the same period, 1,139 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, raising the total number of cases recorded by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to 84,997 so far this year.
The latest deaths were reported under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and in Mymensingh division.
At present, 3,219 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals nationwide.
According to the DGHS, 62.4% of this year’s dengue patients are male and 37.6% female. Among the deceased, 52.7% were men and 47.3% women.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives, while 101,214 cases and 100,040 recoveries were recorded during the same period.
